It was Christian Breul Von Maria whose grandfather, master lace-worker, who had the idea to open an original craft centre in Ainay. The centre has much to offer, including lace-lined cloaks, laced linen skirts and a new line of jewellery associating diamonds, ebony, mother-of-pearl and steel, but also abstract paintings created using natural pigment and flax oil.
One can also find the original creations made by ‘the grandfather’ – unique in their genre. The initiative has been recognised by Nadine Gelas, vice-president of Grand Lyon as well as Mick Fouriscot, president of the National Group for Lace and Embroidery. “This centre has two principal strengths, - not only has Christian Breul Von Maria brought lace-work into the present day, but also valorises significantly the other crafts present”, notes the president.
The centre is home to the textile creations of Russian-born Elena Bessières, and Hervé Cousin’s Tahitian black pearl contemporary jewellery, created with the utmost respect for a long line of traditional jewel-craft.
